Dollywood Winterfest !

We all had a great time at Dollywood. We go here at Christmas each year as a family tradition. We follow-up the visit with a nice meal (this year it was Outback) and then head home with a head full of great memories.

Violin Recital 2008
Clay, Danae, and Cody all performed at the violin recital last week. They did a wonderful job and we are very proud of the outstanding progress they have all made this year!

Indian Week in the Smokys

Cody spent the week of June 16th at the Smoky Mountain heritage museum studying the indians of the region. He was able to do crafts, play traditional indian sports, meet a full blood cherokee and loved every minute of it. You see him here with his friends Liam, Matthew, Brandon and others. Thanks so much to his teachers that so inspired him over the week. He is looking for thistle weed to use for making darts and purchased an arrowhead for updating his spear. What fun for an 9 year old boy!

Clay Departs Nashville for the UK

Well, the day came sooner than any of us wanted it to. However, with much anxiety we faced it with a brave spirit. We had to leave Knoxville around 7am to make it to Nashville in time for Clay to catch his first flight all alone. This first leg of his trip took him to Detroit where he will be shuttled to the Hillsdale campus for 2 days of study before departing on his big trip across the pond. He will enjoy lessons and touring in the UK and get college credit for his effort!. He will return on the 28th (not soon enough). He is checking his email and you could send him a line at clay@powersfamily.cc

Garden Update

Well, here it is. The great garden of 2008 features with its caretaker. The new boxes are working great and the mushroom compost is really doing its job. We will have tomatoes, watermelons, squash, beans, cucumbers, potatoes, and quite a few flowers. Cody's "tent of beans" is also coming along. So, if you are in the area at harvest, come by for a free load of veggies

Live from Destin!

May 6, 2008 - The Powers arrive in Destin for a week of sun and fun! We left Monday afternoon after the kids had finished the co-op school and headed south with the van fully loaded. We made it to Gadsen, AL and spent the night. Then on Tuesday, we headed out for a quick (5 hours) trip to Destin. We are staying at a condo this time instead of a hotel like last year. We really like it better because it is like having our own house here with separate bedrooms and a full kitchen. We also have a great view of the gulf. Our unit is on the 10th floor and the back balcony opens directly to the gulf. Today, Wednesday, we hit the beach. The gulf is still a little cold but very pleasant after being in it for a few minutes. After building a great sand castle, boogie boarding, and throwing some frisbee, headed out for lunch at Johnny Rockets. We really love destin and it is always great to be together and enjoy the beach. My mom is also with us and is enjoying reading by the gulf in her sun hat. Well, that is it for now...more updates later.

Ironman - Awesome!

Well, we couldn't wait. Since the first trailer, we have been waiting with great anticipation. So when we found out that showings begin at 8:00pm on the Thursday before release....well what else could we do! We went the night before it opened. Of course, having a man on the inside (Clay) with access to free tickets doesn't hurt either. So, we caught the 9:30 show and it was awesome. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
